System Overview
In most systems, audio for the personal mixers comes from the existing console. Unlike in a traditional monitoring setup, the audio that's sent to the musicians is usually a combination of individual channels—such as vocals and individual instruments—plus submixes of multi-channel sources such as drums, string sections, or choirs. Musicians make their monitor mixes from this multi-channel audio feed using the Aviom Personal Mixer.

In most cases, you'll connect an Aviom input module or console card to your mixing console and route a combination of individual channels (using inserts or direct outs) and submixes. If you have an analog console, the Aviom input module coverts these signals to full bandwidth, uncompressed digital audio.
From there, the audio signals are output on a standard Cat-5e cable as A-Net®, Aviom's revolutionary digital audio protocol designed to distribute multi-channel audio without any meaningful latency and without any hassle for you.
In some cases, you can daisy chain your Aviom Personal Mixers, but the vast majority of systems use an A-Net Distributor, which splits the digital signal and provides both audio and power to each personal mixer.

Customizing Your Mix
Aviom Personal Mixers give musicians the ability to customize what they hear, whenever they want, quickly and easily. With no menus to navigate, no soft keys, and highly intuitive interfaces, Aviom Personal Mixers give musicians the control they need—without distraction or frustration.

Customizing a mix with an Aviom Personal Mixer is as simple as selecting the channel you want to adjust (lead vocals, bass, keys, and so on) and then changing that channel's volume or placement in the stereo field. With these simple controls, musicians are able to dial in exactly what they want to hear, get a fantastic and personalized mix, and stay focused on their performance.
Aviom's new A360 Personal Mixer also provides the ability to adjust an individual's tone to, say, make the vocals a little more brilliant or to give the bass a little more punch, as well as to add a touch of
reverb to help open things up a bit. The A360 delivers a new level of customization without complexities that become distractions to performing and recording musicians.
All Aviom Personal Mixers include master volume and tone controls, plus the ability to save your mixes, group channels, and solo and mute channels.
Aviom Personal Mixers are designed with the musician in mind and ensure that complete customization is always at your fingertips.

Listening to Your Mix
Aviom Personal Mixers can be used with nearly any listening device—wired or wireless in-ear monitors, headphones, powered or passive wedge monitors, or spot-type monitor speakers. However you like to listen, an Aviom Personal Mixer will give you unprecedented control over what you hear.

Aviom Personal Mixers are most ideally suited for use with in-ear monitors and headphones, as these provide some isolation from other sound sources and provide a stereo signal exactly where you want it. Headphones and wired in-ears can be connected directly to the Aviom Personal Mixer's audio outputs. If you're using wireless in-ear monitors, simply connect the personal mixer's audio outputs to the audio inputs of the transmitter unit for your earphones. With a good pair of in-ears or headphones and an Aviom Personal Mixer, you'll experience the best in on-stage or in-studio monitoring.
If you prefer the sound of an open air speaker, you can still use an Aviom Personal Mixers. If your speakers are powered, they can be connected directly to the personal mixer. If you're using passive speakers, connect the audio output of the personal mixer to the inputs of your amp.
System Building Blocks
Getting Audio in to the System
An Aviom input module or console card takes your existing audio sources, converts them to digital if necessary, and outputs the audio stream over a single Cat-5 cable using Aviom's A-Net technology. No matter what kind of console you use—or even if you don't use a console at all—Aviom has an input module or console card to get you connected. Plus, many popular brands of digital mixing consoles have an A-Net console card available to allow Aviom personal mixers to be connected. Check our Partners list for more info.

Distributing Audio to Personal Mixers
Some Aviom Personal Mixers can be daisy chained, but most systems use an A-Net Distributor to make copies of the digital audio stream. As a bonus, you also get power on the Cat-5 cable so you don't have to connect a power supply to the personal mixer.
And if you need a lot of Personal Mixers, you can connect as many A-Net Distributors as you need.

Mixing and Getting Audio Out
The A360 or A-16II Personal Mixer is the best choice for most musicians. The A-16R is a rack-mount version of the A-16II (with an optional remote controller—the A-16CS, which has the same basic interface as the A-16II), with some additional I/O options. In systems with 16 or fewer channels, A360, A-16II, and A-16R Personal Mixers may be freely combined in a single system.

Expanding the System:
Adding More Input Channels
To take full advantage of the A360's advanced 36-channel mix engine, the AN-16/i v.2 Input Module allows additional channels to be added to the A-Net digital audio stream. Up to four AN-16/i v.2s may be daisy chained—for up to 64 channels in the system—and each A360 may be assigned its own set of channels from the system.

Why choose Aviom if you're a performer?
It's easy. When performers have more direct control of their monitor mixes, they can concentrate on making music. You can sing and play better when you’re not worrying about an inferior mix, and that’s especially important if you use in-ear monitors. Why choose Aviom if you're an engineer?
If you work live, you can spend more time working on getting the front-of-house audio sounding great and less time fighting on-stage wedge speakers that constantly feed back and interfere with the FOH mix. If you're in the studio, spend less time adjusting cue mixes and more time concentrating on the creative aspects of the recording process.

Why choose Aviom if you're a system designer or installer?
Installing a monitoring system that complements your FOH system design and makes it sound even better is a no-brainer. Plus, you can be confident that you're installing a product that's easy to implement and has a proven track record for reliability in the field.
Simple, Intuitive Operation
The last thing you want to be thinking about when you're performing is your monitor mix. Aviom Personal Mixers let you fix your mix and get back to playing. No menus to navigate. No complex commands to learn. No advanced skills necessary. Aviom Personal Mixers give you fast, easy access to everything you need to make sure you hear exactly what you need.
The Proven Industry Leader
Aviom has over 10 years of industry-leading experience building products that help musicians, engineers, technical staff, designers, and installers create better sounding music and sound systems. With well over 100,000 products in use around the world, Aviom has earned the reputation as the industry leader in personal mixing.
Designed By Musicians For Musicians
The Aviom team has a lot of different skills, and most of us work here, in part, because we're musicians too. We understand how musicians' needs are different from engineers. We've lived through playing gigs where you can't really hear. And we've experienced the frustrations of trying to work with audio gear that's designed more like computer hardware. We believe everything should be as simple as plugging in a guitar cord and getting down to playing.
Designed, Manufactured, and Supported in the USA
Aviom is located in suburban Philadelphia in the Eastern US. Everything that Aviom makes—from our products to our website—is developed and produced in the US. That means quality you can count on and believe in. And because we support everything we do right from our own offices with our own staff, you know you won't get the run-around when you need help.
