RS-232 & USB Information
Pro64 Network Manager requires a direct RS-232 (serial) connection between your computer and the Control Master device on your Pro64 network. Normally this is accomplished by connecting a null modem DB9 cable between the RS-232 jack on your computer and the Pro64 device.
System Requirements
Some PCs, especially laptops, are built without an integrated RS-232 port. If your PC lacks an RS-232 port you can still run Pro64 Network Manager by using a USB to RS-232 Adapter. The adapter (sometimes called a USB to Serial Adapter) operates as a bridge between a USB port and a standard RS-232 Serial port.
The following USB to RS-232 Adapters have been tested by Aviom and found to work with the Pro64 Network Manager:
- Keyspan USB High Speed Serial Adapter (Model USA-19HS)
NOTES: Both Windows XP and Vista drivers included. Run their utility software to determine the COM port that is in use. Match that number in the Pro64 Network Manager settings. - IOGEAR USB to Serial Converter Cable (Model GUC232A)
NOTES: Both Windows XP and Vista drivers included. Must configure baud rate (default is 9600) and get COM port info from within the Ports section of Device Manager - not well documented. Identifies itself as the ATEN USB to Serial Bridge. - CablesToGo 13in Port Authority USB Serial DB9 Cable (Model 26886)
NOTES: No Windows Vista drivers included. Must configure baud rate (default is 9600) and get COM port info from within the Ports section of Device Manager - not well documented.
