  • Independently selectable output levels for left and right channels
  • 48kHz, 24-bit D/A converters
  • Optional power over Cat-5e using a Pro16 A-Net Distributor
  • Simple plug-and-play installation
  • Secure set- and-forget channel configuration
  • Reversible mounting flanges

The AV-P2 Output Module provides up to two channels of analog outputs from a Pro16 A-Net digital audio stream. The analog output level for each channel is set with front-panel DIP switches.

AV-P2 modules can be connected in any combination of serial or parallel connections, using Pro16
A-Net Distributors. There is no limit to the number of devices that can be daisy chained, or to the number of parallel splits in a single system.

Each AV-P2 receives a 16-channel A-Net stream originating at a Pro16 input module, console interface card, or Pro64™ audio network (via the ASI A-Net Systems Interface module).

A front-panel rotary switch allows the output to be set to any one of those 16 channels. If the selected channel is part of a stereo pair (set at the input module), the left and right channels are automatically routed to the left and right outputs on the AV-P2. If the selected channel is not part of a stereo pair, the channel's audio is routed to both the left and right outputs.

Audio is distributed to the AV-P2 over standard Cat-5e cables, using Aviom's A-Net digital audio protocol. A-Net supports plug-and-play installation, real-time distribution with sub-millisecond latency, and long cable runs up to 500ft/150m. Power can be supplied to the AV-P2 with an external DC power supply or over the Cat-5e cable (with an A-Net Distributor). Additionally, Pro16 A-Net audio streams can be transmitted over single- or multi-mode fiber optics using certain standard third-party media converters.

The AV-P2 has reversible mounting flanges. Two AV-P2 modules can be mounted side by side on a standard 1U rack tray. The AV-P2 is compatible with all Pro16 Series products.

Up to 16 audio sources (any combination of mono and stereo, up to 16 channels) are connected to a Pro16 input module, where the input signals are converted to digital and transmitted as A-Net. The A-Net signal connects to one or more A-Net Distributors, which supply both the digital audio and DC power to the connected output devices, in this case the AV-P2 Output Module.

Users can select any of the input source channels to be monitored by using the rotary selector on the front of the AV- P2.

Up to 16 audio channels connect to a Pro16 input module which is connected to an A-16D Pro A-Net Distributor. The A-16D Pro distributes digital data and DC power to eight AV-P2 2-channel output modules.

The system can be expanded by adding A-16D Pro A-Net Distributors and AV-P2 modules as needed without requiring any additional configuration.

Up to 16 audio channels connect to a Pro16 input module. Cat-5e cables are used to link AV-P2 2-channel output modules serially.

An unlimited number of AV-P2 output modules can be connected. Each can be up to 500 feet/150 meters apart.

For an 8-channel system, substitute the AV-M8 Mic Input Module.

Two AV-M8 input modules are cascaded via the built-in ADAT® digital connection to create a single 16-channel A-Net stream. Up to 8 conference mics can be connected to each AV-M8 input module. Additional audio from line-level sources such as a CD or DVD player, computer, video system can also be connected to the AV-M8; it has built-in pads available on channels 1-2 for just this purpose.

The two AV-M8 modules in this system are connected digitally to create a single 16-channel A-Net stream. A single Cat-5e cable from the AV-M8 connects to an AN-16/o Output Module in the equipment room. The line-level audio outputs from the AN-16/o connect to a DSP processor. The output from the DSP feeds a power amp that sends the processed audio to ceiling speakers.

An optional RS-232 remote control can be added to the DSP device.

When a large number of users need access to a group of audio channels, Pro16 Series modules can be combined to create a robust yet easy-to-operate audio distribution system that can be expanded almost indefinitely.

This diagram shows a large press room or translation service feed that uses a line-level input module to feed multiple A-Net Distributors. Each distributor can send data and DC power to up to eight units. Monitor stations can also be connected serially, with power provided locally.

Expand the system with additional distributors and monitor stations.

Getting Started - Source Select

Audio from an existing source, such as a mixing console, satellite audio feed, computer, radio receiver, CD, or DVD player, is connected to a Pro16™ or Pro64® Series input module or console interface card. Input modules are available in a variety of configurations and formats, including digital cards for a host of leading console manufacturers. Refer to the Partners section for complete details.

The input module converts the audio to A-Net and outputs an A-Net digital audio stream over Cat-5e. Output modules, mixers, or network devices can be connected as needed.

With an A-Net based system, there is no practical limit to the size of a system; even hundreds of users can be easily accommodated.

Getting Audio Out of a Pro16 System

Once a signal is converted A-Net, any compatible Pro16 device can be used to convert the digital data back to analog. The AN-16/o Output Module provides line- or mic-level output signals that can be connected to mixing consoles, recording devices, etc.

Unlimited lossless digital splits can be created from any or all output modules in a system simply by connecting another output module with a Cat-5e cable.

Compatible Pro16 output devices include:
  • A-16II Personal Mixer
  • A-16R Rack-Mount Mixer
  • AN-16/o Output Module
  • AV-P2 Output Module
Combining Pro16 and Pro64 with the ASI

The ASI A-Net Systems Interface can be used to connect select Pro16 Series devices to a Pro64 Series network, further enhancing the output options for a system or installation.

The ASI provides a link between Pro64 Series networking products and Pro16 Series output devices, such as the AV-P2 and AN-16/o Output Modules, and the A-16II and A- 16R Personal Mixers. The ASI features two Pro64 network ports and four Pro16 outputs, separated into 16-channel blocks and transmitted out the corresponding Pro16 ports.

The ASI is a plug-and-play module, requiring no configuration beyond selecting a Pro64 network port for Manual Mode systems. The number of available channels and Pro16 ports is determined by the sample rate of the Pro64 network (64 channels and four ports at 44.1/48kH±, 32 channels and two ports at 96kHz±, and 16 channels and one port at 192kHz±). Stereo link settings from the Pro64 network are passed to the Pro16 outputs.

Creating Digital Splits - Pro16

A digital split creates an exact copy of a set of 16 outputs in a Pro16 network. The AN-16/o Output Module's A-Net Out port can be used to connect additional AN-16/o modules that can be connected up to 500 feet (150 meters) apart. Simply connect A-Net Out from the first output module to A-Net In on the next.

In a source select system, the AV-P2 two-channel output module can be connected in the same manner. In fact, any combination of Pro16 output devices can be used, and they can be placed in any order.

Modules can be daisy chained (serial connection) or connected using the A-16D or A-16D Pro A-Net Distributors for parallel connections.

Using A-Net Expansion Jacks

Pro16™ Series input and output modules include A-Net Expansion jacks, which can be used to combine to 16-channel Pro16 A-Net streams onto a single cable.

To use A-Net Expansion jacks, first connect one pair of input and output modules as normal (A-Net Out on the Input Module to the A-Net In of the Output Module). Next, connect the second set of input and output modules to the A-Net Expansion jacks on the first pair. All 32 channels (32x0 or 16x16) will be transported on the original Cat-5e cable connecting the first pair of devices.
